Vitamin E actually refers to eight related nutrients, of which d-alpha tocopherol is the most common.

Tocopherol is a fancy name for Vitamin E and some of these related compounds. The addition of the mixed tocopherols helps increase bioavailability and boosts the formula's antioxidant activity.

The name 'tocopherol' comes from Greek. And the first tocopherol ever founds was assigned the chemical name alpha tocopherol.
