Slippery Elm Powder from Now Foods is a herbal supplement best known for its soothing properties.

Also known as red elm, moose elm or Indian elm, the slippery elm is a small tree native to North America.

It has been a part of traditional herbal medicine for over 100 years, and was used by both Native Americans and early settlers as a survival food during lean times. The inner bark of the tree is high in carbohydrates and antioxidants. And it resembles oatmeal in taste and consistency.

The inner bark also contains mucilage, which becomes gelatinous when mixed with water.

Due to this property, slippery elm has been used for gastrointestinal issues. It can create a film over the mucus membranes of the digestive tract when ingested.

Together with the herb's antioxidants, this film may ease the irritation and minor pain or discomfort associated with Crohn's disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, IBS and ulcerative colitis.

It may also help with peptic ulcers and diarrhea.

Slippery elm may also help with respiratory or bronchial issues, with the soothing film produced upon ingestion easing sore throats and coughs that come with the common cold or flu.

The herbs unique properties may also help lessen the internal issues associated with bronchitis, easing shortness of breath, cough or chest discomfort.

    Now Food Slippery Elm Powder

I love this product. It's soothing feeling to the GI tract, and adding it to protein smoothies thickens them and makes them even better.
