About Groundwork Coffee

Since its founding, the brand has focused on sourcing high-quality, ethically grown beans from organic farms worldwide. Why organic? When it comes to pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides, coffee is one of the top sprayed agricultural crops across the globe. Groundwork Coffee believes in the time, effort, and work it takes to field organic plants.

Groundwork Coffee roasts its beans in small batches, ensuring a premium coffee experience that reflects its dedication to quality and environmental responsibility. All of the company’s coffee comes from smallholder farms, family-owned farms that invest their livelihoods in sustainable practices that help create Groundwork Coffee’s incredible products, from coffee to tea.

The History of Groundwork Coffee

Groundwork Coffee was founded in 1990 with a simple mission: to provide the best organic coffee to its local community in Venice Beach. Starting with a single café, the brand quickly expanded due to increasing demand, roasting coffee around the clock from their small shop on Rose Avenue. Today, they have numerous cafés along the West Coast and two bustling roasteries in Los Angeles and Portland.

In the decades since their founding, Groundwork Coffee has played a critical role in fostering the development of organic coffee farms globally. Their unwavering dedication to sustainable practices, community engagement, and unmatched quality coffee and tea has earned them a loyal following across the globe.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Certified Organic mean?

Organic is at the forefront of all Groundwork Coffee’s processes, from buying only certified organic (i.e. pesticide-, herbicide-, fungicide-free) coffees to roasting those same coffees using industry-leading, solar-powered technology.

What is direct trade?

While you may have heard of “fair trade” coffee, Groundwork Coffee uses a specialized model called direct trade. Direct trade is a process in which roasters work directly with farmers to meet higher standards for coffee quality in exchange for a premium price. That means that farmers get liveable wages and customers get the best tasting coffee available.

Where does Groundwork roast its coffee beans?

Groundwork roasts their organic coffee beans at their roasteries in North Hollywood and in Portland.

Does Groundwork Coffee also sell tea?

Yes! Groundwork Coffee also has delicious organic tea products available, including Organic Masala Chai, Organic English Breakfast, Organic Earl Grey, and more.

Why is my coffee oily?

The presence of oil on a darker roasted bean usually means that it has been recently roasted. The oils start to dry up if roasted coffee isn't used for a while.

What is Groundwork Coffee’s return policy?

Groundwork products purchased through Natural Healthy Concepts have a 60 day return policy.
