Two-Pronged Approach to Easing Joint Pain
by Taryn Forelli, N.D.
Osteoarthritis is a common disease related to aging. Joints tend to degenerate through wear and tear, leading to decreased mobility and pain. Because joint pain is a combination of deterioration of the joints and excess inflammation, it is best to address the pain with a combination of products that remedy both problems.
Inflammation in the joints is caused by the activation of inflammatory enzymes, namely cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX). Numerous factors can trigger these enzymes, including normal aging, oxidative free radicals, injury, infection, autoimmune disorders, and obesity.
Zyflamend™, from New Chapter Organics, is an extensively researched patented formulation comprised of specialized extracts of 10 herbs and spices, including ginger and turmeric, which have traditionally been used to promote joint health.
Shown to powerfully modulate a broad spectrum of inflammation mediators, including COX and LOX enzymes, it is the ideal complement to glucosamine, which supplies the building blocks for healthy joint cartilage.
Glucosamine, a natural component of cartilage, can be derived from the chitin of shellfish or synthesized from plant sources. It stimulates metabolism of cells in cartilage, which can delay or reverse the progression of osteoarthritis. It can also increase the synovial fluid in joints and decrease the pain.
