Vital Nutrients Slippery Elm Bark Powder is rich in mucilage and helps stimulate the production of mucus, a component of the gastrointestinal tract's protective lining. Its beneficial properties help support mucus membrane surfaces in all areas of the body, particularly of the gastrointestinal tract. It assists in minimizing swelling, and is used effectively with a variety of intestinal distresses. It seems to draw mucous up and out of the lungs, and can stop fits of coughing.

    Really helps interstitial cystitis

This slippery elm product mixes easily in any drink blender and, while not exactly a ""taste treat"", is not bad (kind of sweet). This is a very high quality slippery elm product and I can see that it helps people with many ailments, but can only comment on it with regard to the bladder condition interstitial cystitis (chronic inflammation of the bladder wall). This immediatedly (for me, from the first use) soothes and alleviates pain. Had tried slippery elm before, at lower doses and got no response. This product allows the use of much higher doses and at higher doses is, in my experience, something everyone with interstitial cystitis should try. If I get any of the other conditions (flu, etc.), good to know that is useful for those too. It is a bit inconvenient to have to mix it with water and drink it, but that would be true of ANY powder. To get the dose needed (2 scoops, at a minimum) with capsules is not practical.
