When temperatures soar, we’re all about embracing minimalism. Whether we’re sipping on gut healthy drinks, spring-cleaning, or working out, we’re constantly looking for the easiest (and breeziest) ways to live healthy lives.
Naturally, this also applies to makeup routines. We love finding the quickest routines that yield gorgeous results, using products that are made without harsh ingredients. That’s why we’re excited to bring you this guide to mastering this summer’s natural beauty trends, using makeup that seeks to support healthy looking skin.
What does Natural Mean in Makeup?
Sadly, the use of the word natural in makeup isn’t regulatedmeaning that any company could potentially use the word to describe their products. While the FDA recently published guidelines that limit the use of lead in beauty products (here’s a great guide to understanding more about this issue), it’s still not a good idea to buy a product without knowing what’s in it.
Your best bet is to look at the ingredient list, and find products that are made without parabens or other harsh ingredients. You can also search for products that are Certified Organic, since these are regulated by the USDA and made without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, and other inorganic substances.
So Which Products Should I Choose?
When embracing the latest natural beauty trends, find a company or a product that uses health-supportive ingredients—it can make a difference when it comes to supporting healthy looking skin and hair. Our bodies are constantly exposed to pollutants, synthetics, and stress, so choosing a natural beauty product may give your skin and hair a break.
The brands we carry at Natural Healthy Concepts are designed to support healthy looking skin with ingredients that are gentle on your skin. We love partnering with these brands to bring you natural beauty trends for summer that you can feel good about!
How to Wear Natural Beauty Trends for Summer
Below, we’ve collected this summer’s best looks that you can easily achieve at home. Try them out for yourself!
The No Makeup Makeup Look
Without a doubt, the no makeup makeup trend is one of the hottest looks this summer. While this natural beauty trend may seem like an oxymoron, it actually focuses on covering blemishes and highlighting other areas of your face to make your skin stand out. No how do you achieve this look?
Start with a Clean Canvas
The most important part of this trend is clean, radiant skin. Start with an exfoliator (either a scrub or brush) to get rid of dead skin cells and leave your face smooth and soft. Follow with a moisturizer (choose a lightweight option so your face doesn’t get greasy).
Choose Your Base
This look is is all about getting a natural glow without using products that weigh down your skin. This means ditching heavy foundations and opting for lightweight, tinted moisturizers or BB creams. These formulas are less likely to melt or evaporate in hot or humid weather, and provide cover for blemishes and dark circles without making you feel like you’re wearing frosting. When choosing a BB cream or tinted moisturizer, look for one that has an SPF of at least 20. A mineral-based option is great, since these contain antioxidants that work to protect your skin cells from damaging free radicals.
Finishing Your Look
The rest of your look should be simple as well. Skip the eye shadow and finish with a soft blush and non-clumping mascara for a polished yet natural feel.

Playful and Colorful
Full confession: I’m one of those people with a closet of black and grey clothes, but I like to get creative with makeup in the summer. Luckily, the bold colors and fun pastels trending this summer are perfect for adding a pop to your look, whether you prefer an LBD or a bright red sundress.
The trick to mastering color in your makeup is to use it as an accent. This means choosing one of your features to highlight (colored eye shadow paired with a bright lip can work sometimes, but it’s pretty easy to end up looking clownish). So pick a feature and go with it.
Lips
Bold lip colors are great for bringing summertime vibes. Rather than the vampy/90’s inspired hues of winter, try a bright poppy, coral, or fuchsia lip for a fun pop of color. Keep the rest of your makeup simple with a neutral eye shadow, minimal eyeliner, and black or brown mascara.
Eyes
The idea of colorful eye shadow can conjure visions of bright blue shades straight from the 80’s, but this summer’s color palettes are a little softer (no doubt inspired by the unicorn-everything that’s been taking lattes, frappucchinos, and beauty products) and feature pretty pastels and lighter shades. Using an all-in-one highlighting crayon is a great option for on-the-go beautifying. Just swipe over lids, across your brow bone, or on your lower lash line for an unexpected hint of color.
Cheeks
If you’re not quite ready to jump on the bright lip or eye shadow bandwagon, you can still add color to your face with a bright blush. Pick out a shade that flatters your skin tone (that usually means lighter pink shades for fair skin, rose pink and peaches for medium skin, and deep roses, oranges, and even plums for dark skin), and look for creamy formulas that will adhere to your skin better in warm weather. If you want to get really trendy, try using your blush as an eye shadow!

Beachy and Bronze
This one’s not really a new, so it may not count among the “new” natural beauty trends, who can resist the golden I-just-came-back-from-the-beach look?
Bronzer
The key to this look is finding a great bronzer. Bronzer can be the ideal tool for achieving a sunkissed glow, but make sure to pick one that complements your skin tone (usually one to two shades darker than your normal skin tone, with added shimmer) since too dark can look artificial or worse, dirty. Use a kabuki brush to apply your bronzer on your cheeks, forehead, and décolletage. We love bronzers with multiple shades, which will come across as more natural.
Finishing the Look
Finish your beachy look with a shimmering gold shadow, black mascara, and tousled hair. You can also swipe a highlighter across the tops of your cheeks for a more dewy look.
